“We as a group said to maintain that small-town feeling, this (Vision Georgetown) area had to have its own personality. It needs to feel like its own community. It needs its own central core, its own schools, its own parks. It needs to feel like a neighbourhood. That plan will preserve our small-town character.”

“Lawlor said having a vision for the future is important. She said she's proud of both the health care and fire department levies (as part of the levy and fire master plan) introduced during her term as mayor. She said the health levy will help support the Bennett Village long-term care home, North Halton Hospice and the new Georgetown Hospital while the fire levy led to the Town hiring more full-time firefighters, with provisions for more in the future.”

“The economy being what it is, I don’t see us expanding in a major way. To do so, we’d have to increase taxes and I don’t think that’s the responsible way to go right now.”
“We can make it a more vibrant place and build a community there, not just a corridor,” she said. “We’ve talked to the business interests and there’s an excitement of what it could be.”

“It’s about all of us being in this together. That’s the bottom line. I absolutely support the police and I support all the fabulous services that Halton Region and our other municipal governments are providing for our residents. The reason why I flinched when it came to that conversation was because the increases that the police were asking for were just too high for me. Given the kind of stretching that our municipal budgets are having to undertake right now, for a 8% plus increase in the police budget on top of a 14% increase that they had last year, which was also a tight year for municipal services, I just couldn’t say yes that I agreed with that. The police have a really hard job to do. Policing is getting much more complex, the bad guys are getting worse, and so forth. So I absolutely understand and support their efforts. But the reality too is, Halton Region is one of the safest, if not the safest region in Canada."

“I haven’t used strong mayor powers and I won’t use strong mayor powers. I brought forward a motion to regional council that criticized the Ford government for appointing a regional chair (who will have strong mayor power) in the upcoming election.”
