Achievements in Business, Government & Community Service

Ann Lawlor was first elected as a Ward 4 representative to Council in 2010 and served three terms before winning election as Mayor of Halton Hills in 2022. 


Before taking public office, Ann's career included 10 years as an account executive in a family-owned marketing company; five years as director of a social service agency; and three years managing her own consulting business. 


Ann believes in thinking globally while acting locally. She sees opportunities and brings people together to make a difference. 

Ann knows from experience that big things can happen in small towns!


Ann's long-time passion for effective government is grounded in a master's degree in public administration.


Leadership as a Community Volunteer

Over many years, as a leader in many organizations, Ann has inspired volunteers and donors to come together to make a difference in our Town. Ann's impact as a volunteer is deep and wide, ranging from the environment to social services to heritage and health care and humanitarian help.

    Ann's Volunteer Community Impact:

    Environment

    • Environmental action and greening our town as founding Chair, Trees for Halton Hills. 
    • Imagining and mobilizing volunteers to plan a spectacular public garden as a charter member, Friends of the Old Seed House Garden. 
    • Supporting a healthy natural environment as an executive  board member, Credit Valley Conservation Authority. 


    Women's Leadership

    • Growing women in business as a charter member of Cornerstone Women's Network. 
    • President, CFUW (University Women's Club). 


    Heritage

    • Celebrating and sharing our heritage as Chair, Doors Open. 
    • Saving an historic home from demolition and restoring it for community use as founding Chair, Friends of Devereaux House. 


    Humanitarian Aid

    • Settling a young family fleeing war as Co-Chair, Halton Hills Syrian Refugee Settlement. 


    Social Services & Health

    • Providing social policy research and promoting volunteerism as Chair, Community Development Halton. 
    • Supporting better health care as a Director, Georgetown Hospital Foundation.  
    • Creating funding for local social service agencies as founding board member, United Way of Halton Hills.

    Ann as Mayor

    As Mayor, in addition to her executive duties, Ann has initiated new priorities that improve our town, notably:

    • Developing the Fairy Lake Revival project in Acton.
    • Leading the commercial and mixed use Revitalization of Guelph St. in Georgetown.
    • Monitoring new housing developments so that growth complies with local planning priorities.
